Griff first discovered his love for fitness and training when he was 17 years old. Having just signed a letter of intent to play football at the University at Albany, he was amazed at how he was able to grow stronger, faster and improve his performance on the field through proper training and nutrition. He became a Certified Personal Trainer through the American College of Sports Medicine in 2009. He is constantly reading, researching and implementing new techniques in an effort to better himself and the clients he serves. After obtaining his undergrad in Business Administration, he went on to complete his MBA from the University of Maryland in 2015.

Personal Training

Whatever your goal is, we will get you there. Specialties include weight loss, strength gain, sport-specific performance, contest prep, and adolescent fitness. All clients receive supplemental workout logs and customized nutrition plans to ensure success is met. A trainer’s job is to teach and motivate – clients receive undivided attention in the gym and quick responses via call or text out of the gym. Get committed, take the safety off, and lets work.

Nutrition coaching

Also referred to as ‘Online Training’ – nutrition coaching consists of manipulating macronutrients (food), supplementation, strength training, and cardiovascular training. This is done online through email. Clients complete a detailed questionnaire so that every variable can be personalized and tracked. Once the initial (or modified) proposal and direction are agreed upon between client and trainer, the work begins! Progress is tracked weekly through detailed check-ins and picture comparisons. This service is great for someone who has gym experience, but needs a little extra help dialing it in and perfecting their look. Response time is quick – client questions and emails get answered within 24 hours.

Corporate wellness

Exercise increases health, morale and productivity in the workplace. Peak Or Freak Fitness offers morning and lunch-hour boot camp’s for employees as part of our corporate wellness program. Personal training sessions are also available if the workplace has a fitness center. Boot camp sessions can range from 2 to 50 people – regardless of the amount participants, everyone will leave feeling energized and proud of the work they accomplished!



Working with Griff at Peak or Freak Fitness has been nothing short of outstanding. I was a bit skeptical as to how an online trainer would work; however, it couldn’t have ended in better results. I successfully lost 20 pounds, and added on a pretty good amount of muscle in a short span of 12 weeks. Griff was there every step of the way, encouraging me and keeping me motivated. He had excellent response time with every question I shot at him. I am incredibly happy with the results, and I am excited to continue working with Peak or Freak Fitness.


Back in February of 2015 I weighed in at 196 lbs. I was overweight and decided to get a trainer because I was having a bar mitzvah and wanted to look good. When I met Griff he helped me out a lot. He trained me to get in better shape, lose weight and become stronger. Now I weigh 140 lbs and feel and look a lot better. What I liked about training with Griff was whenever I felt I couldn’t do another rep or set of a workout he always pushed me to do it, and it worked! He also helped me on my diet and prepared me for high school JV football.


Griff embodies change through consistent and positive feedback and encouragement. He retrained my attitude while I retrained my body. In a short period of time I gained confidence to walk into any fitness center and lift weights. Griff instilled that confidence. He quickly discovered the athlete in me that I never knew was there. The results I achieved to date are largely due to his combination of diverse training methods, individualized exercise programs and challenging yet achievable goal setting. His professionalism, extensive knowledge and enthusiasm provides his clients with the perfect scenario for success and set the foundation for a new healthier lifestyle.


Griff Courtney is the ultimate trainer.  He became my personal trainer at a time when I needed a lot of help with my physical conditioning.  I have a rare genetic condition that has rendered my lungs almost useless.  I choose to live the fullest life possible with the disorder and with Griff’s help I am able to do that.  He was very willing to learn about my disorder. He tailor made my workouts and modified them where necessary to help me reach my fullest potential. He celebrated with me as I reached even the smallest goals.  He checked in with me between sessions to make sure my head “stayed in the game”.

 Griff is one of only 2 trainers I have ever had that kept all his attention on me while I was in the gym… not texting or checking out others in the gym.

Because of Griff , his excellent training abilities and personal attention to my needs I became strong enough to travel all over the world with the confidence needed to enjoy adventurous activities.  His training truly increased my quality of life.

Over the years I have shared with others about just how great this one trainer is that I had.  That is Griff Courtney.  The day he left the gym to move back to his home state, I cried… we both did.  He not only was my trainer but became my friend as well.  He truly cares about the people who he trains.
